The Evidence for the Word of Tawhid

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: And as for the questioner’s statement: “You call people to tawhid (the oneness of Allah), so what is your evidence for the word of tawhid? Where is it derived from?”

A: The answer is that there is much evidence for this in the Book of Allah (Mighty and Majestic) and the Sunnah of His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him).
And tawhid (the oneness of Allah) means: making Allah one, meaning believing that He is One with no partner. Among the verses indicating this is His saying (Glorified and Exalted is He):
And I did not create the jinn and mankind except to worship Me.
[Surat al-Dhariyat: 56] and His saying (Glorified and Exalted is He):
And We sent not before you any messenger except that We revealed to him that, "There is no deity except Me, so worship Me."
[Surat al-Anbiya: 25]. There are many verses in this meaning.
As for the hadiths, among them is what is established in Sahih al-Bukhari from Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Mu’adh when he sent him to Yemen:
the first thing to which you will invite them, be the Tauhid of Allahادعهم إلى أن يوحدوا الله
Sahih al-Bukhari 7372
Al-Bukhari narrated this wording in his Sahih, and in Sahih Muslim from Tariq ibn Ashim al-Ashja’i from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:
He who professed that there is no god but Allah and made a denial of everything which the people worship beside Allah, his property and blood became inviolable, an their affairs rest with Allah.
Sahih Muslim 23a
He explicitly stated in his words:
and declared the oneness of Allahوحد الله
This indicates that this is the meaning of La ilaha illa Allah (There is no god but Allah).
Among this is what is established in Sahih Muslim from Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
The superstructure of) al-Islam is raised on five (pillars), i. e. Allah (alone)
Sahih Muslim 16b
This hadith is an explanation of his saying (peace and blessings be upon him) in the other narration:
Islam is based on (the following) five (principles): 1. To testify that none has the right to be worshipped but Allah and Muhammad is Allah's Messenger (ﷺ).
Sahih al-Bukhari 8
This hadith. There are many hadiths in this meaning. And success is from Allah.
