Does one sin if his pictures remain with his friends without his consent?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: I have some of my pictures with my friends, and I asked them for these pictures so that I could tear them up, out of fear of Allah's punishment. Some of them gave them to me, and some refused, claiming that the sin is on them and that I am free of it. Is this correct? I hope you will inform me?
A: Sincere repentance from sins erases sins, as Allah the Exalted said:
And turn to Allah in repentance, all of you, O believers, that you might succeed.وَتُوبُوا إِلَى اللَّهِ جَمِيعًا أَيُّهَا الْمُؤْمِنُونَ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُفْلِحُونَ
[Al-Nur: 31]. And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
(embracing) Islam wipes out all that has gone before it (previous misdeeds). Verily, emigration wipes out all the previous sinsالإسلام يهدم ما كان قبله والتوبة تهدم ما كان قبلها
Riyad as-Salihin 710
And you must destroy the pictures you have, based on the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to 'Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) :
Spare no portrait unwiped out, and leave not a high grave unlevelled.لا تدع صورة إلا طمستها ولا قبرا مشرفا إلا سويته
Riyad as-Salihin 1687
It was narrated by Imam Muslim in his Sahih. As for your pictures that are with people, if you ask them for them and they refuse to hand them over to you, you are free of them, and your repentance covers them. The sin is on the one who possesses them. May Allah improve the condition of everyone.
