Ruling on gathering for the supplication of completing the recitation of the Noble Qur'an

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: What is the ruling on gathering for the supplication of completing the recitation of the Great Qur'an? That is, when a person completes the recitation of the Noble Qur'an, he then invites the rest of his family or others to supplicate with him in a collective manner for the completion of the Great Qur'an, so that they may receive the reward of completing the recitation of the Great Qur'an, as mentioned by Shaykh al-Islam Ahmad ibn Taymiyyah (may Allah have mercy on him), or other supplications written at the end of mushafs called the Supplication of Completing the Great Qur'an.
Is it permissible to gather for the supplication of completing the Great Qur'an, whether that is at the end of the blessed month of Ramadan or on other occasions? Is this gathering considered a religious innovation or not? And has a specific supplication for completing the Great Qur'an been reported from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)? We ask for clarification of this, along with citing the evidence.
A: As far as we know, no evidence has been reported specifying a particular supplication. Therefore, it is permissible for a person to supplicate with whatever he wishes, and to choose from beneficial supplications, such as seeking forgiveness for sins, attaining Paradise and safety from the Fire, seeking refuge from trials, and seeking success to understand the Noble Qur'an in the manner that pleases Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) and to act upon it and memorize it, and the like. This is because it is established from Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that he used to gather his family when completing the recitation of the Qur'an and supplicate. As for the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), as far as I know, nothing has been reported from him regarding this.
As for the supplication attributed to Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah (may Allah have mercy on him), I do not know the authenticity of this attribution to him, but it is well-known among our shaykhs and others. However, I have not come across it in any of his books, and Allah knows best.
