Our Lord is in the sky

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: I mentioned a story on one of the radio stations, which says: A son asked his father about Allah, and the father answered: Allah is present everywhere.
What is the legal ruling on such an answer? Abdullah M - Riyadh
A: This answer is invalid, and it is the speech of the people of innovation, specifically the Jahmiyyah and the Mu'tazilah, and those who follow in their footsteps. The correct position, which is that of the people of the Sunnah and the community, is that Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) is in the sky, above the Throne, above all His creation, as indicated by the Qur'anic verses, the Prophetic hadiths, and the consensus of the Salaf of the Ummah. As he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: :
Indeed, your Lord is Allah, who created the heavens and earth in six days and then established Himself above the Throneإِنَّ رَبَّكُمُ اللَّهُ الَّذِي خَلَقَ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضَ فِي سِتَّةِ أَيَّامٍ ثُمَّ اسْتَوَى عَلَى الْعَرْشِ
[Al-A'raf: 54], and He (Glorified and Exalted is He) repeated this in six other verses of His great Book. The meaning of istiwaa' (rising above the Throne) according to the people of the Sunnah is: elevation and rising above the Throne in the manner befitting the majesty of Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He), and no one knows its modality except Him. As Malik (may Allah have mercy on him) said when asked about it: The istiwaa' is known, the modality is unknown, belief in it is obligatory, and asking about it is a religious innovation. His (may Allah have mercy on him) intention was asking about its modality.
This meaning was reported from his shaykh, Rabi'ah ibn Abi 'Abd al-Rahman, and it is also narrated from Umm Salimah (may Allah be pleased with her). It is the statement of all the people of the Sunnah, from the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) and those who came after them from the imams of Islam. Allah the Exalted has informed in other verses that He is in the sky and that He is in the height, as He the Exalted said:
So the judgement is with Allah, the Most High, the Grand."فَالْحُكْمُ لِلَّهِ الْعَلِيِّ الْكَبِيرِ
[Ghafir: 12], and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: :
To Him ascends good speech, and righteous work raises itإِلَيْهِ يَصْعَدُ الْكَلِمُ الطَّيِّبُ وَالْعَمَلُ الصَّالِحُ يَرْفَعُهُ
[Fatir: 10], and He the Exalted said:
and their preservation tires Him not. And He is the Most High, the Most Great.وَلا يَئُودُهُ حِفْظُهُمَا وَهُوَ الْعَلِيُّ الْعَظِيمُ
[al-Baqarah: 255], and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: :
Do you feel secure that He who [holds authority] in the heaven would not cause the earth to swallow you and suddenly it would sway?أَأَمِنْتُمْ مَنْ فِي السَّمَاءِ أَنْ يَخْسِفَ بِكُمُ الْأَرْضَ فَإِذَا هِيَ تَمُورُ ۝
[Al-Mulk 67:16]
"Or do you feel secure that He who is in the sky would send against you a storm of stones? Then you will know how I warn." [al-Mulk: 16-17]. In these verses, and in many verses from the noble Book of Allah, He the Exalted has explicitly stated that He is in the sky and that He is in the height, and this is in agreement with what the verses of istiwaa' indicate.
And by this it is known that the statement of the people of innovation that Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) is present everywhere is one of the most false of falsehoods. It is the doctrine of the heretical, misguided Mu'tazilah (who believe in the indwelling of the divine in creation), and indeed it is disbelief, misguidance, and lying to Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) and lying to His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) regarding what is authentic from him about his Lord being in the sky, such as his (peace and blessings be upon him) saying:
Don't you trust me though I am the truth worthy man of the One in the Heavensألا تأمنوني وأنا أمين من في السماء
Sahih al-Bukhari 4351
And as came in the hadiths of the Night Journey and the Ascension and others. And Allah is the guarantor of success.
