The ruling on praying in trousers and a T-shirt at home

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The third question in this letter asks: Is it permissible for a man to pray inside his home wearing trousers and a T-shirt that cover the private parts, or is he required to wear his full clothes and adorn himself with the ghutrah and the like?
Answer: Praying in trousers and a T-shirt that covers the shoulders is valid, and there is no harm if the trousers cover the private parts and the T-shirt covers the shoulders; there is no blame in any of this, based on the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
None of you should offer Salat (prayer) in a single garment with no part of it on his shoulders.لا يصلي أحدكم في الثوب الواحد ليس على عاتقه منه شيء
Bulugh al-Maram 2:72
So if there is something on the shoulder or both shoulders, like a T-shirt, praise be to Allah. However, it is better for him to adorn himself by wearing his shirt and turban; based on the saying of the Exalted:
O children of Adam, take your adornment at every masjidيَا بَنِي آدَمَ خُذُوا زِينَتَكُمْ عِنْدَ كُلِّ مَسْجِدٍ
[Al-A'raf: 31] It is better for him to take the customary adornment and pray with the people in good clothes. All of this is better. But if he prays in an izar and a rida, or prays in a shirt and a rida, or a shirt and a T-shirt that covers the shoulders, there is no harm in that and no blame, so the prayer is valid. Yes.
The presenter: May Allah reward you.
