The Ruling on Sacrificing Male Sheep, Goats, Cattle, and Camels

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The listener Salih 'Ali Abu Safwan sent a message containing a collection of questions, among which was a question asking: Are male sacrificial animals, such as male sheep or castrated male goats, permissible for a person to sacrifice?
Answer: Yes, the sacrifice is prescribed with both males and females from sheep, goats, and lambs, as well as from camels and cattle. All of these are a recommended practice (sunnah) that is prescribed, whether the animal sacrificed is male or female, a male goat, a ram, a sheep, a female cow, or a male cow, and likewise a male camel or a female camel. They are all legally valid sacrifices if they meet the prescribed age: a one-year-old lamb, a two-year-old goat, a two-year-old cow, or a two-year-old camel. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to sacrifice with rams, specifically males. Therefore, a male lamb is better; a ram from the lambs is better. He (peace and blessings be upon him) used to sacrifice with two brown rams, which are better than females. If one sacrifices with females, there is nothing wrong with it. As for goats, the female is better, but if one sacrifices with a male goat, there is nothing wrong with it, provided it has completed one year or more. Yes.
The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
