The Ruling on the Ma'mum Delaying in Following His Imam
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
A message was received by the program from the listener: (A. H. A.) from Egypt, and he sent a set of questions, saying in one of them: Two men work in the same store, and they pray together with one of them leading, but the ma'mum says the closing salam about three minutes after the imam, and when the imam asks him why he does this, he replies that his prayer is quick. Is this valid?
Answer: It is the Sunnah for the believer to say the closing salam after his imam, and to do the actions after his imam, keeping connected with him and not delaying; because of his saying (peace and blessings be upon him):Sunan Ibn Majah 1238Sahih (Darussalam) to the end of it.
So the Sunnah is that he follows his imam, keeping connected with him. If the imam's voice stops while he is saying the takbir, he says the takbir. If the imam straightens up in bowing, he bows. If the imam straightens up in prostration and his voice stops, he prostrates, and so on. And if the imam says the salam, he says it after him. But if the imam hastens before the ma'mum has completed what is prescribed, there is no harm in him delaying slightly after him; so that he completes what is prescribed of seeking refuge with Allah from the punishment of the Hellfire, from the punishment of the grave, from the trial of life and death, and from the trial of the Dajjal.
And the imam should not hasten; so that he does not force the ma'mums to leave the recommended practices or to delay after him. He should be deliberate and not hasten; so that the ma'mums are able to do the recommended things along with the obligatory ones.
Then also: It is not permissible for them to pray in the shop alone. It is obligatory that they pray in the mosques, not in their store. It is obligatory for them to go out to the mosque with the Muslims. It is not permissible for anyone to pray in his house or in his shop. Rather, he must go to the place of prayer, close the shop, and go to the place of prayer. The right of Allah takes precedence. Yes.

The Imam is appointed to be followed. When he says Allahu Akbar, then say Allahu Akbar; when he bows, then bow; when he says Sami’ Allahu liman hamidah, then say Rabbana wa lakal-hamd
