Clarification of the ruling on one who consumed people's wealth unjustly and then repented

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
He also describes his previous state and says: "I used to consume what is forbidden, knowing that the money I embezzled was the amount of my expenses, and I did not need it, but that was due to Satan's adornment of it so that I would increase my salary. I am fully aware of the owners of this money. Should I return it to them, or should I spend it on their behalf in the path of Allah to avoid problems, or is my repentance sufficient for all of this? May Allah reward you with good."
Answer: As for the money, it is necessary to return it to its owners. You must repent, feel remorse, and make a sincere resolve not to return to it. Along with that, you must return the money as long as you know them. You must return the wealth to them by any means that reaches them, even if they do not know it is from you. It is necessary to return it to them in a way that delivers it to them, indicating that it is their right. For example, you can return it to them through a person who entered their home and returned it to them, or you can send it to them through trustworthy people who will deliver it to them, stating that it is from a person who says it is owed to them, and they will accept it. Or you can hand it to them yourself and say it is from a person—meaning yourself—who sees that you have a right upon him, and this is your right. It is not necessary for you to say it is from me if you fear problems.
The point is: It is necessary to fulfill the rights of their owners. As for the one who does not know them or has forgotten them, he gives it in charity with the intention of it being on their behalf. Yes.
The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
