You have done well in reading the Qur'an, for it is the Book of Allah, containing guidance and light, and caring for its reading is among the greatest acts of drawing near to Allah and the best of acts of obedience. Allah the Exalted said: [Al-Isra: 9] And He the Exalted said: [Fussilat: 44] And the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) said: And he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: in many hadiths. So you have truly done very well.
As for magazines, there is a distinction: it is prescribed to read and benefit from good, useful religious magazines, just as one does with books, such as useful books of knowledge: books of the noble hadith, books of correct creed, and books of Islamic jurisprudence.
As for obscene magazines and obscene newspapers, it is not permissible to read them or to occupy oneself with them; rather, they must be fought and one must be warned against them, because of the magnitude of their evil and harm.
