What is the ruling on letting the beard grow?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Is the beard an obligatory sunnah that must be preserved, or is it a recommended sunnah for which there is no punishment if it is left?

Answer:
The beard is an obligation; it is not permissible to expose it to shaving or cutting. It must be left to grow, honored, preserved, and let down. It is a sunnah in the sense of the Shari'ah, called a sunnah because it is prescribed, and it is called obligatory because the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded it and made it obligatory. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Trim your mustaches, let your beards grow, and differ from the polytheistsقصوا الشوارب، وأعفوا اللحى، خالفوا المشركين
He said:
Cut the beards short, let the beards grow, and be distinct from the polytheists.قصوا الشوارب، ووفروا اللحى، خالفوا المشركين
And he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Trim closely the moustache, and grow beard, and thus act against the fire-worshippers.جزوا الشوارب، وأرخوا اللحى، خالفوا المجوس
Sahih Muslim 260
These are all authentic hadiths from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Therefore, it is obligatory for the Muslim to let it grow, honor it, and preserve it, and it is not permissible for him to cut it or shave it. Yes.
