Ruling on raising the voice in prayer in order to teach the children
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Umm Muhammad from Riyadh sent three questions. In the first question, she says: “Your Eminence, I have been accustomed to having my children stand beside me in prayer since they were five years old, and teaching them how to pray. This necessitates that I raise my voice slightly so that they can imitate me. My question is: Is there any sin on me for raising my voice slightly in teaching my children?”
Knowing that I still raise my voice to teach the younger ones among them.
Answer:
There is no blame in that, if Allah wills; there is no blame. However, if it is possible to teach them outside of prayer, that is more complete. Teach them outside of prayer so that when they enter into prayer, they have already learned. And if you raise your voice a little so that they understand, there is nothing wrong with it.
And when a child reaches seven years of age, you order him to go to the mosque to pray with the people. The girl prays with you and learns from you. For those under seven, a five-year-old or a six-year-old, there is nothing wrong if he learns; otherwise, his prayer is not valid until he reaches seven. But if he has learned, there is nothing wrong.
As for the obligatory duty, it is to take care of the one who has reached seven so that he learns and benefits. The woman prays with you and you teach her. If the boy prays with you, there is nothing wrong. And if you order him to go to pray with the men, that is the recommended practice (sunnah). And when he reaches ten years of age, he is to be struck until he prays with the people. Yes.
