The Ruling on a Woman Taking Birth Control Pills

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
He also says: Some women take birth control pills. Please inform us whether this is lawful or forbidden?

Answer:
This requires a detailed explanation:
If the woman finds pregnancy difficult because she is carrying one child after another, or if she has an illness that pregnancy would harm her from, according to the opinion of knowledgeable doctors, then there is no harm in her taking birth control pills temporarily, not permanently, but temporarily, such as for one year or two years, until it becomes easy for her to raise the children and take care of them, or until the illness is removed if she has one.
As for taking the pills permanently, that is not allowed; because this means cutting off the lineage, and this is something that contradicts the Shari'ah. The Shari'ah seeks the increase of children; for this reason, it came in the noble hadith from him (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:
Marry women who are fertile and loving, for I shall be boasting with you before the nations on the Day of Resurrectionتزوجوا الولود الودود، فإني مكاثر بكم الأمم يوم القيامة
Sunan al-Bayhaqi 10:869
And in another wording:
I shall outnumber the Prophets by you on the Day of Resurrectionمكاثر بكم الأنبياء يوم القيامة
Bulugh al-Maram 8:3
This indicates that the Shari'ah desires the increase of children and doing good to them, and raising them with good upbringing, so that they become the ones who increase the Muslim community, and so that they also increase the reward of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), for whenever his followers increase, his reward increases (peace and blessings be upon him), for he has a reward like the rewards of those of his Ummah who follow him (peace and blessings be upon him).
So it is recommended for the believer to seek the reward in increasing his children, and to marry women who are fertile so that his children increase, and Allah will help him with them, and the Provider is Allah .
But if there is a dire necessity due to an illness, an illness of the womb, or another illness that makes pregnancy difficult, or if she is carrying one child after another, meaning: the pregnancies succeed one another and are difficult for her, then there is no objection to her taking some pills for rest, and to lighten the effect on her from the side of the womb illness, or otherwise, or from the side of carrying one after another, for a short period, one year or two years, the duration of breastfeeding, for example, or less than that, yes.
