Ruling on Visiting the People of Innovation for the Purpose of Calling Them to the Truth

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
This questioner is from Chad. He says in this question: “Your Eminence, I used to visit the people of goodness, the scholars, and the shaykhs, but sometimes I visit the homes of the people of innovation. My intention is to call them to the path of happiness and the path of the Sunnah. Is there any sin in doing this?” May Allah reward you both.

Answer:
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
Praise be to Allah, and may Allah send blessings and peace upon the Messenger of Allah, and upon his family and his Companions, and upon those who follow his guidance. As for what follows:
Visiting the people of knowledge and faith from the people of the Sunnah and the community, and visiting the brothers in Allah, is an act of drawing near to Allah and obedience. As for visiting the people of innovation, it is not permissible to visit them for the sake of companionship, affection, or the like.
However, if a student of knowledge visits them for the purpose of admonition, reminding, and warning against religious innovation, this is praiseworthy and rewarded; because this falls under the category of calling to Allah, enjoining good and forbidding evil. So if you visit those who have some of these innovations, and you visit them for the sake of calling to Allah, giving advice, and providing guidance, then you are rewarded. And you should not leave off doing so if there is benefit in it. But if they persist and do not respond, then leave them alone.
