The Ruling on Ritual Purity When Wiping Over the Turban and the Like

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Is ritual purity required when wiping over the turban, or the head covering for a woman? And what is the method of wiping over it?
May Allah reward you with good.

Answer:
The turban is like the leather socks; ritual purity is required. If one wears the turban that is tied under the chin while in a state of purity, he wipes over it for one day and one night. Likewise, if a woman wraps the headscarf around her head and it is difficult for her to remove it, she wipes over it for one day and one night if she was in a state of purity, just like the leather socks. However, if it is not difficult to remove, like the ordinary turban or the ghutrah, then there is no wiping required for it; because removing it is not difficult, and one is not burdened with it. The same applies to the ordinary headscarf. But if the turban is tied under the chin and bound on the head, and there is some difficulty in removing it, then he wipes over it for one day and one night if he wore it while in a state of purity. Likewise, if she wraps the headscarf around her head and ties it on her head, she wipes over it for one day and one night if she wore it while in a state of purity, meaning: wearing the headscarf while in a state of purity. Yes.

The presenter: What about the headband, if you please, O Shaykh, regarding the woman?

The Shaykh: I do not know what the headband is.

The presenter: Like the tight head wrap, exactly. And you were asked about it and you answered.

The Shaykh: What is the headband?

The presenter: The tight head wrap, or the headband, is a wrap that a woman ties on her head so that nothing of her hair is seen. This is most commonly used by Muslim female doctors and Muslim female nurses.

The Shaykh: If she wraps it around her head, ties it under her chin, wraps it around her head, and ties it on her head, it is of the same kind as the turban, of the same kind as the headscarf.

The presenter: The ruling is the same.

The Shaykh: If it is while in a state of purity, yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good. So, she may wipe over it if she wears it while in a state of purity?

The Shaykh: For one day and one night, yes.

The presenter: May Allah bless you.
