I am a calligrapher who has been asked to write cloth banners for the candidates. Is this permissible or not?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh: Yes.

The questioner: Peace be upon you.

The Shaykh : And upon you be peace and the mercy of Allah.

The questioner : How are you, my professor?

The Shaykh : Praise be to Allah, I am well.

The questioner : Welcome, a question.

The Shaykh: Yes.

The questioner: Question.

The Shaykh: Go ahead.

The questioner : I am a calligrapher working in the media. Do you hear me?

The Shaykh : I am all ears for you.

The questioner : Okay, I was asked to write cloth banners for the candidates. Is this permissible or not? Knowing that all the requested slogans are ordinary; some are verses and others call for unity of the ranks, and so on. The slogans themselves do not contain anything forbidden. What is your opinion?

The Shaykh : May Allah guide you. Say, "Ameen."

The questioner: Amen.

The Shaykh : You are adding justification and a means to your question so that my answer will be "permissible," and you will not get that answer. How can you say that these advertisements do not contain a violation of the Shari'ah? We have looked at these advertisements and we saw many, many serious legal violations. I am asking you a question now: Is it permissible for a Muslim to praise his Muslim brother to his face?

The questioner: No.

The Shaykh : Ah, why? Because Allah says:
So do not claim yourselves to be pure; He is most knowing of who fears Him. فَلَا تُزَكُّوا أَنْفُسَكُمْ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَنِ اتَّقَى
[An-Najm 53:32]
And our Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) says:
Praise is slaughter, praise is slaughter, praise is slaughter. If one of you must praise his brother, let him say: I think he is such and such, and Allah is his accountant, and I do not praise anyone over Allah
Do you know this hadith?

The questioner : I know this hadith.

The Shaykh : Wait, I am asking you now. Have you not read in these advertisements on these white and black cloths? Have you not read the self-praise of these candidates for themselves?

The questioner : Yes, it contains this talk.

The Shaykh : In this talk, is this permissible legally?

The questioner : This is not permissible.

The Shaykh : So how can you say these writings do not contain a violation of the Shari'ah? That is one thing. And are there not strange and odd advertisements in such writings, such as that he wants to support the law and wants to support democracy, and so on? I tell you, be content with what Allah has provided for you, and you will be the most worshipful of people.

The questioner : Okay, a small thing. I naturally apologized for writing what you mentioned because some of the words contain only a piece of a hadith or a verse, so the matter is not like that.

The Shaykh : My brother, this verse or hadith must be written from the angle of the candidate praising himself.

The questioner : I understand. A right sought with which is wrong, meaning.

The Shaykh : Therefore, it is not permissible.

The questioner : Okay, the last thing I want to tell you is that I currently have a debt. Does this affect the ruling or not?

The Shaykh : It does not affect this.
And whoever fears Allah - He will make for him a way out (3) And will provide for him from where he does not expect. وَمَنْ يَتَّقِ اللَّهَ يَجْعَلْ لَهُ مَخْرَجًا " وَيَرْزُقْهُ مِنْ حَيْثُ لَا يَحْتَسِبُ
[At-Talaq 65:2-3]

The questioner : May Allah reward you with good.

The Shaykh : And may Allah protect you, if Allah wills.
