Ruling on the Condition of Medical Examinations Before Marriage

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
The questioner asks in this question: Is it permissible for a man to condition his marriage on a woman undergoing medical examinations before the marriage, and if the results of the examination are not satisfactory, for example, if the results indicate that the woman carries a hereditary disease such as weak eyesight or rheumatism, does the man have the right to break off the engagement at that time?

Answer:
This action, which is requesting the conduct of examinations, is not recommended; because this opens the door to evil, and the doctor may make a mistake, causing problems for her or for the man. However, he should ask about her, and if her appearance indicates that she is healthy and sound, then praise be to Allah, and the same applies to the man. The family of the wife has no right to conceal her defect if she has a hidden disease; it is not permissible for them to conceal it. They must disclose it and not deceive the husband. As for his demanding an examination from the doctor, I do not know any basis for this, and it is not recommended to do this; because it causes problems, and it may lead to great evil, and the prevention of women from marrying due to the mistakes of some doctors. Yes.

The presenter: Thank you, O Shaykh, and may Allah bless you and your knowledge, and benefit the Muslims through you.
