The Ruling on Swearing by the Mushaf
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
A listener, (Muhammad M.) from Jeddah, asks Your Eminence: What is your opinion—may Allah preserve you—regarding swearing by the Mushaf? Is it considered an oath? And if one swears truthfully, is he sinful? And if he swears falsely, is he likewise sinful?
Please direct us, may Allah reward you with good.
Answer:
If one swears by the Mushaf intending the Qur'an, the speech of Allah, there is no harm; because the Qur'an is the speech of Allah. So if he says, "By the majesty of Allah," or "By the speech of Allah," or "By the Mushaf," and his intention is the Qur'an, his intention being the speech of Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) , this is an oath with no harm. This is an oath with no harm, and there is no blame in it, and praise be to Allah. It is like if he said, "By the majesty of Allah," "By the knowledge of Allah," or "By the speech of Allah," there is no harm. He swears by an attribute of Allah, just as if he said, "By the Most Merciful," "By the Most Compassionate," "By the Mighty," or "By the Wise." So if he says, "By the majesty of Allah," "By the mercy of Allah," "By the knowledge of Allah," or "By the speech of Allah," there is no harm. Yes.
The presenter: May Allah reward you with good, and may He do you good.
