The Ruling on Neglecting Prayer and the Consequences and Effects of Abandoning It

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
What is the effect of the sin of abandoning prayer on a soldier when he faces his enemy? What are the effects that return to the one who abandons prayer in his daily life? And what is the ruling on one who does not attend the prayer in congregation in the mosque without an excuse?

Answer:
Prayer is the pillar of Islam, and it is the greatest and most important of the obligatory duties after the two testimonies. Whoever abandons it has committed disbelief—we seek refuge in Allah from that. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
The covenant that distinguishes between us and them is prayer; so whoever leaves it, he has committed Kufr.العهد الذي بيننا وبينهم الصلاة، فمَن تركها فقد كفر
Sunan Ibn Majah 1079Sahih (Darussalam)
, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Between a man and disbelief and shirk (associating partners with Allah) is the abandonment of prayer.بين الرجل وبين الكفر والشرك ترك الصلاة
.
The consequences of abandoning it are: misery in this world, punishment in the Hereafter, and defeat when facing the enemies. He is deserving of defeat and lack of victory because of his injustice to himself. Allah (Exalted and Majestic is He) said:
And [that] indeed, Our soldiers will be those who overcome.وَإِنَّ جُنْدَنَا لَهُمُ الْغَالِبُونَ
[al-Saffat:173], and He said:
if you support Allah, He will support youإِنْ تَنْصُرُوا اللَّهَ يَنْصُرْكُمْ
[Muhammad:7]. Whoever abandons prayer abandons the support of Allah, for the support of Allah is upholding His religion and fulfilling His rights . Therefore, abandoning prayer carries a great danger and a severe evil. Establishing it, preserving it, and being consistent with it are among the causes of victory, divine support, and happiness in this world and the Hereafter. Whoever lags behind in the congregation and prays it at home has sinned and resembled the hypocrites. It is obligatory for him to pray it with the congregation.
