If divorce is repeated during the waiting period on different days, is it counted as one divorce?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner: Do you exchange that which is inferior for that which is superior? My brother, it is not befitting for our Shaykh to tire of his speech and the benefit derived from it, and praise be to Allah. And I prefer, by Allah, that we also complete our benefit from him and the questions. And I mean, if I am asked in the end about something, there is no harm, so I say: regarding the topic of the past divorce, if the divorce is repeated on consecutive days, it is not counted either; is it counted as one or not?

The Shaykh:
Divorce is twice. Then, either keep [her] in an acceptable manner or release [her] with good treatment. الطَّلَاقُ مَرَّتَانِ فَإِمْسَاكٌ بِمَعْرُوفٍ أَوْ تَسْرِيحٌ بِإِحْسَانٍ
[Al-Baqarah 2:229]
, so the divorce that occurs at one time in the single waiting period, which is not followed by retaining her in a proper manner or releasing her with kindness, is considered one divorce. This is not only if he says in one session, "You are divorced three times," but even if this is repeated in several sessions, because the divorce that occurs is if he returns her to him.

The questioner: Until he returns her to him.

The Shaykh: So if he returns her to him and then divorces her, this is considered [a separate divorce]. But if he did not return her, no matter how many times he repeats it, it is one divorce.
The student: Within the waiting period.

The questioner: Meaning the first divorce counts its waiting period, so those are approximately confirmations of the first divorce if he did not return her?

The Shaykh : Yes.

The questioner : Very good.

The Shaykh: On the condition that it is not obligatory.
