Where does the worshiper place his hands while standing in prayer?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
A collection of questions revolves around the request for clarification: Where does the worshiper place his hands while standing? This is because he says: I have noticed the difference: either on the navel, or on the chest, or some do not raise them, but leave them hanging down, so what is the correct view?

Answer:
The scholars differed on this: some let them hang from their sides, some placed them on the navel, some placed them below the navel, and some placed them on the chest. The strongest of the opinions is placing them on the chest; this is the strongest of the opinions.
And whoever prays with them hanging down, or places them on his navel, or below it, the matter is easy in that; his prayer is valid. But the Sunnah is to place them on the chest; for what is established from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) regarding that. It came from the hadith of Wa'il ibn Hujr: that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to place his hands on his chest in prayer. It also came from the hadith of Qabisa ibn Hulb, from his father: that he saw the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) place his hand on his chest in prayer. Their chains of narration are good, each strengthening the other, and their chains of narration are strong.
And it is established from Tawus ibn Kaysan al-Yamani, the great Tabi'i, as a mursal report from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he used to place his hands on his chest. And this is supported by the two previous hadiths.
And in "Sahih al-Bukhari" (may Allah have mercy on him): from Sahl ibn Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with them both), he said: "The man was ordered to place his right hand on his left forearm in prayer." Abu Hazm, the narrator from Sahl, said: I do not know it except that he traces that back to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). And it is the most authentic of what has come regarding that, and it indicates that the right hand is placed on the left hand on the palm, the wrist, and the forearm. And the hadith of Wa'il and what came in its meaning clarifies its location, and that it is on his chest.
And if he places it on his forearm, it is a Sunnah. And it came from the two hadiths that placing it on the palm, the wrist, and the forearm, its tips are on the forearm, so there is no contradiction. That is to say: placing his right palm on his left palm and connecting the forearm, the tips of his right palm are on his left forearm. So all the hadiths agree on placing the right hand on the left hand on the chest, and the hadiths explain each other.
As for placing them on the navel or below the navel, the report regarding that is weak. And as for letting them hang from his sides and draping them from his sides, it is disliked; there is no evidence for it.
Q: Is draping them down disliked?
A: There is no evidence for it: throwing them on his sides.
Q: Is it not better to raise them?
A: Either like this, which is the best, or on the navel, or below the navel. These are the three opinions for which some texts have come, but the most authentic of them is like this: he places them on his chest.
