What is the ruling on reciting the Qur'an at a condolence gathering?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
What is the ruling on reciting the Qur'an at a condolence gathering?

Answer:
It has no basis, and we do not know of any basis for it. However, if it happens by chance without intention—if they gather and one of them reads—there is nothing wrong with it. But to establish a system for this, there is no basis for it in condolences, whether the presence of readers, or the preparation of food and meals, or anything else.
But if the deceased's relatives have guests, there is nothing wrong with honoring them, or if a lot of food comes to them and they invite people to eat it, there is nothing wrong with that. But to hold a funeral feast for the sake of the deceased, to slaughter animals for the sake of the deceased, and to invite readers for the sake of the deceased, this has no basis. Rather, it is among the religious innovations that people have introduced. As for them gathering and sitting in a place to remember, or to console one another, and one of them reading some verses, that is good.
