The Ruling on Acquiring Video

Question:
Also, we seek your advice, Your Eminence, regarding video and what follows from it.

Answer:
These videos and the television contain dangers. If a person does not look at or watch anything except what benefits him, there is no blame on him. However, watching obscene films and obscene series, or listening to songs and entertainment, is a major sin; it is not permissible, whether from the television, from a film, from the radio, or from anything else.
It is obligatory for the believing man and the believing woman to guard themselves against these matters, and to strive for the safety of the heart and the tongue, and the safety of the ear from listening to what Allah has forbidden. The believer should seek to listen to and watch what benefits him in his religion and his worldly life, and to stay away from what harms him in his religion and his worldly life. We ask Allah for guidance and success for everyone.
