The Ruling on Seeking Nearness to Allah Through the Status of the Prophets and the Righteous, and Through the Status of the Qur'an

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
One of the listening brothers asks this question, saying: Is it permissible to make supplication through the status of the Messenger Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), or through the status of the Qur'an, or through the status of the Gospel and the Torah, or through the status of Ramadan, or through the status of the righteous among people?

Answer:
It is not permissible for a Muslim to make supplication seeking nearness to Allah through the status of so-and-so, or the right of so-and-so, such as the status of the prophets, or the status of the righteous, or the status of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), or the status of Gabriel, or the right of so-and-so. This is not prescribed according to the majority of scholars; rather, it is an innovation and one of the means to associating partners with Allah.
As for seeking nearness to Allah through the Noble Qur'an, such as saying: "I ask You, O Lord! By Your speech, or by Your noble Book," there is nothing wrong with that. Or saying: "I ask You by the speech revealed to Moses or to Jesus," there is nothing wrong with that. However, seeking nearness to Allah by the names of Allah and His attributes is more complete: "I ask You by Your names, O Lord! And by Your attributes." The Qur'an is from His speech, the Torah is from His speech, and the Gospel is from His revealed speech, not the distorted speech. The speech revealed to Moses is from the speech of Allah, and the speech revealed to Jesus is from the speech of Allah.
So if the believer seeks nearness to Allah by the speech of Allah revealed to His prophets, there is nothing wrong with it, or by the Qur'an itself, there is nothing wrong with it; because it is from His attributes (Glorified and Exalted is He). And if he says: "I ask You by Your beautiful names, or by Your exalted attributes" in general, then all of this is good, and they are all lawful means, as Allah the Exalted said:
And to Allah belong the best names, so invoke Him by themوَلِلَّهِ الأَسْمَاءُ الْحُسْنَى فَادْعُوهُ بِهَا
[Al-A'raf: 180].
Likewise, seeking nearness to Allah by faith in Allah and His Messenger, by the love of Allah and His Messenger, and by seeking nearness to Allah through your righteous deeds, such as seeking nearness to Allah by your kindness to your parents, by your abstention from what Allah has forbidden, by fulfilling the trust that is upon you. Seeking nearness to Allah by righteous deeds is permissible.

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
