Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
In a publication titled "Important Issues in Islamic Creed," it states: "It is permissible to seek nearness to Allah through His love for His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) and the awliya, and through our love for the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) and the awliya; because our love for them is a righteous deed. So we say, for example: 'O Allah, by Your love for Your Messenger and the awliya, help us; and by Your love for Your Messenger and the awliya, heal us.'"

Answer:
Yes, there is nothing wrong with seeking nearness to Allah through His love. Yes, it is among His attributes (Exalted and Majestic is He): "O Allah, I ask You by Your love for the awliya, for Your Messenger, and for those who obey You. O Allah, I ask You by my love for Your Messenger, by my love for You, and by my love for the righteous awliya." This is seeking nearness through the attributes of Allah:
And to Allah belong the best names, so invoke Him by themوَلِلَّهِ الْأَسْمَاءُ الْحُسْنَى فَادْعُوهُ بِهَا
[Al-A'raf: 180].
Q: Is the second one not a righteous deed?
A: What?
Q: "By my love for Your Messenger": Is that not a righteous deed?
A: This is a righteous deed.
Q: But by His love for His Messengers and the awliya?
A: Seeking nearness through Allah's love for the awliya, and seeking nearness through our love for Allah and His Messenger, all of this is true. The first is seeking nearness through the attributes of Allah, and the second is seeking nearness through our righteous deeds, such as the means of the people of the cave.
