What is the Sunnah when a person receives news that pleases him?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
I mean, is it part of the Sunnah that if a person receives news that pleases him while sitting, he should stand up, or if he is lying down, he should stand up?

Answer:
He prostrates to Allah, and ritual purity is not a condition for it. Prostration of gratitude and prostration of recitation do not require ritual purity, unlike the prostration for forgetfulness, which requires ritual purity. As for the prostration of gratitude, it comes upon one suddenly, so there is no harm in prostrating. Likewise, the prostration of recitation, even if one is not in a state of ritual purity, as occurred with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) and those who pleased Him.
Q: But does he stand up if he is lying down, as in the case where a bearer of good news came to him?
A: He stands up and prostrates.
Q: But if he is sitting or lying down—meaning—does he sit up and prostrate?
A: It appears that he stood up from his lying position. It is not his intention that he stood up and remained standing; rather, he stood up from his lying position and prostrated to Allah in gratitude.
Q: What is reported from Aisha that if a person intends to prostrate for recitation, it is better for him to stand up and then prostrate from a standing position?
A: It is well known that he (peace and blessings be upon him) used to prostrate while sitting.
Q: Does the prostration (falling down) have to be from a standing position?
A: It is not obligatory to do so from a standing position. If he recites while sitting, he prostrates while sitting, and if he recites while standing, he falls down in prostration.
Q: I mean, is there evidence for those who hold this view?
A: I do not know of any clear evidence for this.
