The Prolonged Absence of a Husband from His Wife to Pay Off His Debts

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
I am a man who has been working in Saudi Arabia for three years, and I am married in Yemen. The reason is that I have a debt. Do I have any obligation regarding my family?

Answer:
If you are seeking lawful sustenance in order to provide for them and pay off your debts, then there is no blame on you, if Allah wills. However, you should strive to visit them from time to time. You should visit them and return to your work after six months, after four months, or after seven months, according to what is feasible for you. This is a way to combine the benefits. Do not continue for long years, because this is dangerous for your family and for you as well.
Therefore, you should handle matters with the best treatment. You should stay in the country where you work for a few months, five, six, or seven, depending on what is made easy for you. Then you go to your family, bringing with you what pleases them in terms of assistance and good. You stay with them as long as Allah wills, then you return to your work, and so on, until Allah makes you wealthy in your own country.
As for continuing for years while you are at work and leaving them, this contains a great danger for you and for them all. What is recommended is that the absence should not be prolonged if you have stayed for an appropriate number of months, five, six, or seven. It is narrated from 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) that he set a limit of six months for the mujahideen, because after six months, it may become difficult for him and for his family.
The conclusion is that the person who is away seeking sustenance should strive to visit his family at appropriate times, after five months, after six, or after seven, depending on what is made easy for him, and then return to his work, thereby combining the benefits.
