Ruling on Increasing the Price in a Deferred Sale

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
This message reached us from Iraq, from Yasin al-Abd al-Halim, in the province of Nineveh, the district of al-Shura. He says in his message: There are two men, one of whom owns a car, and the other wants to buy it from him. The man who owns the car said to him: If you pay in cash, the price is eight thousand. But if you pay in installments, giving me a certain amount each month, the price is ten thousand. That is, the price of the car. Please inform us, may Allah reward you for us, is this correct or not?
Answer: There is no harm in that, in saying: the car is such-and-such in cash, and such-and-such on credit. Whether it is a car, a house, a shop, land, or other goods, there is nothing wrong with it. This is the correct position, of which there is no doubt. However, they must not separate until they have finalized the sale. If they separate without finalizing the sale, nothing is completed; nothing is completed. If they separate agreeing that the sale is for eight thousand in cash, it is valid. And if they separate agreeing that the sale is for ten thousand, five hundred per month or one thousand per month, there is no harm in that, according to what they agreed upon, whether on credit or in cash. Yes.
