The Ruling on Praying Behind an Imam with the Intention of a Different Prayer

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner: He has a second question in this letter, in which he says: I prayed behind the imam intending to pray the Zuhr prayer, because I had missed the Zuhr prayer and I wanted to make it up along with the 'Asr prayer, so I prayed behind the imam with the intention of the Zuhr prayer.
The Shaykh: Repeat, repeat.
The presenter: He says: I prayed behind the imam with the intention of the Zuhr prayer, while the imam was praying the 'Asr prayer. Is my prayer permissible or not?
Answer: Yes, if you missed the Zuhr prayer and you caught up with the people in the 'Asr prayer, there is no blame on you for praying behind the imam with the intention of the Zuhr prayer, and then you pray the 'Asr prayer afterwards. Some scholars said: You may not do that, due to the difference in intention. But the correct view is that there is no harm in that, so the difference in intention does not matter in this case. You pray the Zuhr prayer with them, and then after finishing, you pray the 'Asr prayer, and there is no harm in that, and praise be to Allah. This is the correct view. Yes.
The presenter: May Allah reward you with good and may Allah bless you. He has one more question, but the time for the session is running out. Perhaps, if Allah wills, we will address it in a future session.
