What one who wishes to repent to Allah, Mighty and Majestic, should do

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
This message was received by the program from listener (B. L. D.) in the Tamim Governorate, Iraq. He says in his message, and at its beginning: In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy. Peace be upon you, and Allah’s mercy and blessings. I ask the owners of magnanimity and virtue to answer my questions. The first question: Allah the Exalted said in His noble Book:
And whoever is blinded from remembrance of the Most Merciful - We appoint for him a devil, and he is to him a companion.
[Al-Zukhruf: 36]. Question: Does Allah forgive the one who did not persist in what he did, and what must he do to purify himself and remove the satanic event from his body? Please inform us, may Allah reward you?
Answer: The meaning... Allah the Exalted says:
And whoever is blinded from remembrance of the Most Merciful - We appoint for him a devil, and he is to him a companion.
[Al-Zukhruf: 36]. The meaning of this is negligence, meaning: he becomes negligent and turns away from the remembrance of the Most Merciful
We appoint for him a devil
[Az-Zukhruf 43:36]
. So when a person becomes negligent of the remembrance of Allah and turns away from the remembrance of Allah, Satan is appointed for him to prevent him from the truth and to occupy him with falsehood. The believer should beware of that and strive in the remembrance of Allah with his heart, his tongue, and his deeds until he is safe from the evil of his enemy. The satanic enemy is a whispering, retreating one. In negligence, he whispers and calls to falsehood and discourages from the truth. And in the remembrance of Allah, he retreats, shrinks, and moves away.
So what is prescribed for you—O servant of Allah—and for every Muslim man and woman is to increase in the remembrance of Allah and to account for oneself constantly in that until one is safe from the schemes of one’s enemies. And when the servant repents from his evil deeds, Allah repents for him, as Allah, Glorified and Exalted, said:
And those who, when they commit an immorality or wrong themselves [by transgression], remember Allah and seek forgiveness for their sins - and who can forgive sins except Allah? - and [who] do not persist in what they have done while they know.
[Al-Imran: 135]...
Those - their reward is forgiveness from their Lord and gardens beneath which rivers flow [in Paradise], wherein they will abide eternally; and excellent is the reward of the [righteous] workers.
[Al-Imran: 136]. So He, the Exalted, informed that the repentant, the one who seeks forgiveness, who does not persist, his reward is forgiveness and Paradise. So when the servant repents to Allah from his evil deeds, from zina, or theft, or drinking intoxicants, or other than this from sins, he repents with a sincere repentance, and he abandons the sins and leaves them out of fear of Allah and exalting Him, and he regrets the past with sincere regret, and he resolves not to return to them, then Allah forgives him, Glorified and Exalted is He, as He, the Exalted, said:
And turn to Allah in repentance, all of you, O believers, that you might succeed.
[An-Nur: 31]. And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Verily migration wipes out all the previous (misdeeds)
Sahih Muslim 121
. The great misfortune is to persist and remain upon the evil deed; this is the misfortune. But if Allah grants him repentance, abandonment, regret, and the resolve not to return, then he has succeeded. And if he has injustices against people in their blood, or their wealth, or their skins, or their honor, it is obligatory for him to return their rights to them, or to seek their pardon for that. If they pardon him and permit it, he is safe from the evil of their rights and their injustices. And Allah is the One to be sought for help. Yes.
The presenter: May Allah reward you.
