Taking Knowledge from an Open Sinner

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
What is your opinion regarding one who takes Islamic knowledge from an open sinner and studies under him?

Answer:
A student of knowledge takes knowledge from whoever has it. If knowledge comes, he takes it. If the truth comes, he takes it, even from a disbeliever. Knowledge is sought and taken from whoever brings it, whether he is an open sinner, a disbeliever, or a pious person.
However, he should seek out the good and the righteous scholars so that he may be characterized by their morals and take knowledge from them. But when he finds benefit with an open sinner or a disbeliever, he takes it and does not reject it. The truth is the believer’s lost property; when he finds it, he takes it.
