The doubt regarding the absence of the punishment for the married adulterer in the Qur'an

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Why was the punishment of stoning for the married adulterer not mentioned in the Qur'an, even though it is a harsher punishment than the punishment of flogging?

Answer:
Indeed, your Lord is Wise and Knowing. We have no objection to Allah and our Lord mentioned some rulings in the Qur'an and some rulings in the Sunnah. The Sunnah is a second revelation, the Qur'an is revelation, and the Sunnah is revelation. The fact that He, Exalted is He, mentioned flogging in the Qur'an, and then the Sunnah came with stoning, is not an objection to Allah, for He is the Wise, the Knowing , and the Messenger is His Messenger, and the Qur'an is His speech. He revealed to His Messenger what He revealed to him in the Qur'an, and He revealed to him stoning, so we stone as the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) stoned.
And He revealed to him other things in the Qur'an, mentioning the prohibition of the mother and the sister in breastfeeding, and mentioning in the Sunnah the prohibition of the remaining mahrams, such as the paternal aunt, the maternal aunt, the brother's daughter, and the sister's daughter. This came in the Sunnah, not in the Qur'an, regarding their prohibition through breastfeeding. It was mentioned in the Sunnah the prohibition of marrying a woman and her paternal aunt together, and a woman and her maternal aunt together, and that did not come in the Qur'an. It came in the Sunnah the prohibition of every bird with a claw and every beast with a fang, and that did not come in the Qur'an. Many rulings came in the Sunnah other than what came in the Noble Qur'an, and it is all a proof, and it is all revelation from Allah. The Sunnah came that the Zuhr prayer is four rak'ahs, the 'Asr prayer is four, the 'Isha' prayer is four, the Maghrib prayer is three, and the Fajr prayer is two, and that was not explained in the Qur'an. The Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) explained it in his Sunnah.
So the Sunnah explains the Qur'an, clarifies its rulings, and adds rulings that came in the Sunnah and were not revealed in the Qur'an. It is obligatory for us to follow that, as Allah said:
And whatever the Messenger has given you - take; and what he has forbidden you - refrain fromوَمَا آتَاكُمُ الرَّسُولُ فَخُذُوهُ وَمَا نَهَاكُمْ عَنْهُ فَانْتَهُوا
[Al-Hashr: 7], and He, Exalted and Majestic, said:
obey Allah and obey the Messenger and those in authority among youأَطِيعُوا اللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُوا الرَّسُولَ وَأُولِي الْأَمْرِ مِنْكُمْ
[An-Nisa: 59], and He said:
obey the Messenger - that you may receive mercy.وَأَطِيعُوا الرَّسُولَ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُرْحَمُونَ
[An-Nur: 56], and He, Exalted is He, said:
He who obeys the Messenger has obeyed Allahمَنْ يُطِعِ الرَّسُولَ فَقَدْ أَطَاعَ اللَّهَ
[An-Nisa: 80].

Question: ... in what was revealed in the Qur'an: (And the old man and the old woman who commit unlawful sexual intercourse, stone them both to death)?

Answer: This is abrogation; its wording was abrogated, but its ruling remained.
