The Ruling on Men Specializing in Gynecology and Obstetrics

Question:
My specialization is in gynecology and obstetrics, as this field is difficult for women, and their level of competence in it is generally weak. Therefore, we often need men in this specialty. Is it permissible for me to work in this specialty, knowing that I am personally very jealous and do not accept for my family members to be examined by men, even if it is in internal medicine or dermatology? Please issue a ruling for us, may Allah reward you with good.

Answer:
In any case, this specialty is dangerous, and much evil is feared for the man involved in it. However, if dire necessity calls for it, there is nothing wrong with it. But it is what should be done if women take charge of it; if women specialize in it and strive to teach women this matter, that is more preferable, more beneficial for women, and further from evil. However, pressing need may call for men to specialize in it, and that does no harm.
