Question:
A hadith was reported from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him):Mishkat al-Masabih 3538 If this hadith is authentic, what is the ruling on the killing of Muslim armies who kill one another, such as the Iraqis and the Iranians? Please inform us, may Allah reward you with good.
Answer:
The hadith is authentic in the two Sahihs, from the Prophet (may Allah’s prayer and peace be upon him), that he said:Mishkat al-Masabih 3538 It was said, “O Messenger of Allah, this is the killer, so what is the matter with the one who was killed?” He said: Sahih al-Bukhari 6875.
So if two Muslims meet in injustice and aggression, this is their warning. But if they meet due to a doubt, or for a prescribed matter, such as the people of justice rising to fight the people of rebellion, then those who rose to remove the rebellion are doers of good, and the one killed among them is a martyr, and good is hoped for him; because they rose to remove the rebellion, as Allah (Exalted and Majestic is He) said: [Al-Hujurat: 9].
So fighting the rebels until they return is a lawful fight, and the one killed in that is not included in the hadith; because he is commanded to fight. So the one killed in this is a martyr, and the killer who is fighting—and he is a rebel—is the one in danger. As for the one who fought to remove the rebellion and to stop the rebels at their limit, and then was killed; he is a martyr. And the danger is upon the one who killed the rebels who refused to return to the truth. This is the one upon whom is the warning, and upon whom is the anger; because he rebelled, transgressed, and did not return from his error and misguidance. And so it is with those who fight in injustice and aggression over leaderships, or over matters between them, or over things between them of grudges and hatred. These are included in the hadith. There is no power and no strength except with Allah.
And as for what happened of fighting in Palestine, and in Lebanon, and between the Ba'athists, and between the Rafidah, these are matters that have their causes. [Fussilat: 46] regarding what happened of this fighting. And all these trials are due to the causes of sins, disobedience, misguidance, and deviation from some of those. [Al-Zukhruf: 76] [Fussilat: 46] And He, the Exalted, said: [Al-Shura: 30]. So the Jews were not empowered except by our sins. And what happened in Beirut of punishment, evil, and many wars, and the occurrence of poisons, was not except due to what happened from some of disbelief, and from the other of sins and many evils.
And so it is with what happened to Iraq, and what happened to the Shi'ah in Iran. All this is due to the causes of what they did and what they brought. The Rafidah have among them evil, corruption, cursing the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them and grant them satisfaction), and worshipping the People of the House with shirk (associating partners with Allah), and worshipping graves, building upon them, and worshipping them.
A hadith was reported from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him):
When two Muslims meet with their swords, the one who kills and the one who is killed will go to hell.
إذا التقى المسلمان بسيفهما فالقاتل، والمقتول في النارAnswer:
