The story of Shaykh Al-Albani (may Allah have mercy on him) when he led the people in prayer in Tabuk while he was a traveler and the people were residents

The Shaykh : You should have done what you did in your country... in Tabuk, when my brother al-Hadhrami brought me, I said to him, "My brother, the people are not accustomed to praying as residents behind a traveler." He said, "Let them learn the Sunnah, let them learn the Sunnah," meaning that they should pray four rak'ahs behind one who prays two. He insisted on that, and despite that, I was cautious and delivered a lecture to them before the iqamah for the prayer. I said, "My brothers, I am a traveler, and following the Messenger (peace be upon him) in deed, speech, guidance, and teaching, I will pray two rak'ahs for you. You must be aware that I will not let you hear my taslim. I must say the taslim, but I will say it secretly: 'Peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah.' Complete your prayer, for we are a traveling people. I will tell you this: do not say the taslim with me. Do not say, 'The Shaykh said the taslim,' and I did as I taught. Otherwise, this commotion that you heard would have started, and it would have been said to Shaykh Ghalib, as that man said, 'My brother, who else prays? Why is he making us do this commotion and this noise and this uproar,' and so on. May Allah reward you. If you lead the people and you are the most deserving of the imamate, because the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Sunan Ibn Majah 980Sahih (Darussalam), to the end of the hadith, then you must be mindful of this. This is just as the phrase has emerged in the modern era from the fiqh of reality. It is not just the fiqh of reality in political and social aspects; no, it is much broader and more comprehensive than that. Part of the fiqh of reality is knowing that the Muslim society today lives in very deep ignorance and is very, very far from the Sunnah. So if you are a traveler in your own right, and it is not permissible for you to pray the prayer of a resident except by following the resident imam, then if you lead, you must do what you did. But you must remind them, for the reminder benefits the believers. This is one thing. The other is to revive the Sunnah that 'Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) revived in the larger society in Mecca, just like these days, when he performed Hajj during his caliphate (may Allah be pleased with him) and led the people in prayer as the greatest imam, without a doubt. He said to them, 'Complete your prayer, for we are a traveling people.' And this happened before a crowd of Companions, and he was from the great Tabi'un here, so it was a consensus, as the jurists say, a tacit consensus. Added to this is that it came in "Sunan Abu Dawud" with a chain containing weakness, from Imran ibn Husayn, that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), when he prayed in Tabuk, said: Muwatta Malik 9:22. But the hadith is weak in its chain from the perspective of narration, but from the perspective of understanding, it is the ruling, as we just heard from the revival of this Sunnah by 'Umar ibn al-Khattab in the Noble Mecca. So the traveling imam has two things to do: the first is to revive this Sunnah, and the second is to alert them if he knows that they do not know the Sunnah, and [Qaf 50:37]. And peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah.
The student : Prepare the prayer place, and I am ready to cancel this prayer place immediately.
Another student: He says, "Next year we will establish a Shari'ah prayer place, or do I consider this a Shari'ah prayer place?"
The Shaykh : No problem, there is something better than the Shari'ah one, there is... this mosque is a Shari'ah prayer place.
The student: Not in accordance with the Shari'ah.
The Shaykh : May Allah guide us.
The people should be lead by the one who is most well-Versed in recitation of the Book of Allah
