The Ruling on Expressing Offense Against the Prophet through Demonstrations

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
May Allah reward you. In recent times, offenses against the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) have recurred in various forms, through films, newspapers, or other means. The question is: What is the Shari'ah position regarding this offense? And following that, he asks: What is the ruling on expressing anger at the offense against the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) through demonstrations?

Answer:
Answer: My brothers, this is not new. In the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), they called him a sorcerer, a liar, a soothsayer, a poet, and so on. The Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) was patient. He (peace and blessings be upon him) was patient and did not rush. Allah commanded him to be patient: "And be patient over what they say, and turn away from them with a beautiful turning." He heard it, but he (peace and blessings be upon him) was patient by the command of Allah (Mighty and Majestic): "And We know that your breast narrows at what they say. So exalt [Allah] with the praise of your Lord and be among those who prostrate. And worship your Lord until there comes to you the certainty." So he was patient and prevented his Companions from anyone taking revenge. When he was in Makkah, he prevented his Companions, because if they had taken revenge from the polytheists, Islam would have been destroyed in Makkah, and the call would have been destroyed in its infancy. Until he emigrated and found the Ansar, at which time Allah commanded him to fight the polytheists—the lawful jihad. As for demonstrations, and as for destruction, and as for killing the innocent, and those who are under the protection of the Muslims and under the covenant of the Muslims, this is treachery and is not permissible. It is not permissible to kill the innocent, even if he is a disbeliever; it is not permissible. "And let not the hatred of a people who stopped you from al-Masjid al-Haram lead you to transgression." It is not permissible to transgress against an innocent person. "And no bearer of burdens will bear the burden of another." "And if one of the polytheists seeks your protection, then grant him protection until he hears the words of Allah, then deliver him to his place of safety." The messengers of the polytheists would come to the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) to negotiate. They would enter upon him, even in his mosque (peace and blessings be upon him), and negotiate with them, even though they were polytheists and disbelievers. But it must be known that Islam is not a religion of anger and a religion of revenge; rather, it is a religion of guidance, mercy, and gentleness, just as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was. And what was the result? The result was that Allah supported His Messenger and honored His religion. And those who used to mock the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), some of them became leaders of Islam and mujahideen in the path of Allah, and they embraced Islam and their Islam was good. Because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was patient with them, gentle with them, and kind to them, until they loved him, as Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) said: "And indeed, you are of a great moral character." These are the morals of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him). When the disbelievers do these actions, they want to stir up trouble and say: Look at the behavior of the Muslims; they kill ambassadors, they destroy houses, they demolish buildings. This is from the religion of Islam. This is what the disbelievers want, to spite the Muslims, through the behavior of their ignorant people, through the behavior of the ignorant or those infiltrated among them. It is not permissible to rush in these matters. "And certainly messengers were denied before you, so they were patient over what they were denied and afflicted, until Our support came to them. And there is no changer of the words of Allah. And there has certainly come to you of the news of the messengers." This is the guidance of Islam regarding these matters: gentleness, deliberation, patience, and not rushing. So the polytheists want to exploit these matters, given what happened from some Muslims of arrogance, destruction, and killing, until the Muslims began to fight among themselves. The demonstrators fight with the Muslim security forces. This is what the disbelievers want. Yes.
