Preserving Blessings

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
We ask you, may your excellence be honored, to draw attention to the issue of caring for blessings and not being ungrateful for them. In some occasions, food is thrown away, and sometimes entire slaughtered animals and many plates that no one eats from are discarded. The strange thing is that they are thrown into the trash and garbage bins. This is a form of ingratitude. Perhaps through this media channel, you can alert people and guide them to care for blessings, for our experience of hunger and poverty is recent. Yet, despite that, we have fallen into excess. We ask Allah for well-being and safety.

Answer:
Answer: It is not permissible to be extravagant. Allah (Exalted and Majestic is He) says: {And eat and drink, but do not be extravagant, for He does not like those who are extravagant}. It is not permissible to be extravagant with blessings; rather, one should take only what is needed. If something remains, it should not be wasted, but preserved to be given to those in need. Today, praise be to Allah, there are associations and organizations that take what remains from feasts, keep it, and distribute it to those in need. You can inquire about them and contact them, and they will come to you.
