Islamic Groups in This Era

Question:
May Allah guide you, O Shaykh. Some people ask me about the Islamic groups present in this era. They say: What should I do? Should I answer them, or should I refer them to the scholars, knowing that I am a teacher in one of the schools?

Answer: Refer them to what is mentioned in the hadiths, which is the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "This Ummah will split into seventy-three sects, all of them in the Fire except one." It was asked: "Who are they, O Messenger of Allah?" He said: "Those who are upon what I and my Companions are upon today." Refer them to this hadith. Say: Whoever is upon what the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) and his Companions were upon, they are the people of the Sunnah and the community. And whoever opposes them is threatened with the Fire, whatever name they are called by. You have no concern with their names; the important thing is the opposition, the opposition to the methodology of the people of the Sunnah and the community, which was the way of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) and his Companions.
