The Shaykh : This question opens up another question for us, which is: Who is the Jama'ah? The answer is in the hadith of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), who said: . They said: Who is it, O Messenger of Allah? He said: , and in another narration: . So it is incumbent upon every Muslim to be with this Jama'ah, who are those who first call to acting upon the Book and the Sunnah, and not only that, but also following the righteous Salaf, the Companions. Because he (peace and blessings be upon him) described the Jama'ah by saying: . So if this is their first call, and applying this call is their habit, then it is recommended that one be with them, as Allah the Exalted said: . The Jama'ah is not the one that says, "We are the Jama'ah, and the other one says, 'We are the Jama'ah, you must pledge allegiance to us,'" and that other one says, "You must pledge allegiance to us." Neither this one nor that one. The Jama'ah is not confined to one place, one grouping, or one party; rather, it is spread across the wide earth of Allah, as he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: . So regarding the Jama'ah, we can summarize the answer by saying: The Jama'ah has two concepts, a Shari'ah concept and an innovated concept. As for the Shari'ah concept, it is the one that walks upon the Book and the Sunnah and upon what the righteous Salaf were upon, and this is what we call people to. The innovated concept is a specific group on the face of the earth; whoever claims affiliation with them is one of them, and whoever does not is not. This is an innovation in the religion that has no basis in the Book or the Sunnah. So we are with the Jama'ah that the Messenger described by saying: .
