Question:
In the exegesis of the blessed verse in Surat Tabaarak, in the saying of the Truth: “Blessed and Exalted is He” (Blessed and Exalted is He), I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Shaytan: (Say, “Have you considered: if your water were to sink into the ground, who could bring you flowing water?”)

Answer:
Answer: In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may Allah send blessings and peace upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and all his Companions. At the end of Surat al-Mulk, Allah (Exalted and Majestic is He) challenges the disbelievers who deny His power, His divinity, and His right to be worshipped, saying: (Say, “Have you considered: if your water were to sink into the ground, who could bring you flowing water?”) “Have you considered” means “inform me.” “If your water were to sink into the ground” means it would sink into the earth, and no water would remain for you to drink or to irrigate your farms and crops. “If your water were to sink into the ground, who could bring you flowing water?” Who would replace this water that has sunk into the earth? If it were to cease, you would perish, and your livestock, crops, and farms would perish as a result. This is an affirmation of His power (Glorified and Exalted is He) and His right to be worshipped alone, with no partner. They did not answer this question: “Who could bring you flowing water?” They did not respond, and they were left speechless at that point. This is evidence of His power (Glorified and Exalted is He) and His mercy toward His servants, for He provided them with water and enabled them to access it with ease. Therefore, it is obligatory for them to thank Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) and to single Him out for worship. These idols they worship are all incapable of bringing back the water if Allah takes it away; none of them is capable of doing so. This demonstrates their incapacity and their unfitness to be worshipped alongside Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He).
