Ruling on performing tayammum for one who has a fracture in one of the limbs required for wudu'
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q90: The questioner, H. A. 'A. from the Kingdom of Morocco, says: One day I fell to the ground and suffered a fracture in one of my legs, which led the doctors to perform surgery on me and set the leg with artificial bones or metal pieces. Because of this, it is difficult for me to perform wudu', so I perform tayammum for every prayer and do not perform wudu'. Is her action valid, and if not, what is obligatory for her to do in the future, and what is obligatory for her regarding the previous prayers performed with tayammum only?
A90: It is obligatory for her to wash the sound limbs and wipe over the limb that is difficult to wash. If there is a cast or some kind of barrier on it, she wipes over it. However, if there is no barrier on it, but she is unable to wash it, she performs tayammum for it after washing the sound limbs. As for the prayers she performed previously, if she knows their number, she must repeat them, because tayammum alone is not sufficient; it is necessary to wash the sound limbs.
