What is the ruling on one who works in manufacturing air conditioners, which are then sold to companies that engage in forbidden transactions, such as banks?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : One of the brothers works in an air conditioner manufacturing shop. He says, for example, this order is with an order for, say, one hundred air conditioners for a company, which might be corrupt, like a tavern, a bank, or something like that. So he is asking about the ruling on his work in this?

The Shaykh : It is not permissible.

The questioner : Even if it is rare, Shaykh, meaning not all the manufacturing is for banks.

Another questioner : Not all the manufacturing is for banks; they do general manufacturing.

The Shaykh : The one that manufactures takes on the ruling of the one that purchases.

The questioner : Yes, okay, Shaykh. Here, does the ruling differ if they originally manufacture them not for a specific person, but manufacture them and store them in warehouses, thousands of air conditioners, and then a company, a bank, or others come and withdraw from this warehouse?

The Shaykh : The result is the same; it is not permissible. Meaning, he manufactures them, piles them up, and then sells them to the company. What is the difference between this scenario and the company requesting a certain number in advance, so the manufacturer makes them? There is no difference. The important thing is cooperation in evil.

The questioner : ... It is the predominant opinion of the worker if most of it is here and most of it goes there, because sometimes, yesterday we had one, my Shaykh, who works in a job like this in refrigerators, he told me.

The Shaykh : What, sometimes?

The questioner : I mean, sometimes they buy from him for the bank, from the company; he is the manufacturer.

The Shaykh : My brother, two questions came, and we established that there is no difference between the first question and the second question. Sometimes, what does "sometimes" mean? Consignment or sale?

The questioner : Sale.

The Shaykh : Okay, the answer came. What is the difference between consignment and sale? Has not the cause of cooperation in evil occurred?

The questioner : But ... he does not know about it, and in this one he knows, Shaykh.

The Shaykh : What does he not know? I am telling you, he sold to the company, he sold to the bank. He does not know to whom he is selling.

The questioner : No, my Shaykh, this young man who works does not know when the company disposes of the goods he manufactures, because he is a welder; he welds the sheet metal in this air conditioner company.

The Shaykh : , one word ... one word. It changes now. You say the manufacturer. Okay, and the craftsman?

The questioner : The craftsman knows.

The Shaykh : Okay, the blame falls directly on the craftsman. As for the manufacturer, here the detail applies: he knows that in the majority of cases it is sold through a permissible way, and in the rare case he knows it is through a forbidden way.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : Okay, here the known traditional answer comes: there is a fatwa, and there is the cautious fatwa. The permissible one is allowed, and the cautious one is to stay away.
Leave that which makes you doubt for that which does not make you doubt. دَعْ ما يريبك إلى ما لا يريبك
Sunan an-Nasa'i 5711Sahih (Darussalam)

The questioner : May Allah reward you with good.
