Ruling on the prayer of a patient who is unable to face the qiblah

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q448: The questioner, Abu Hisham, who is of Egyptian nationality, asks: If there is a patient who prays in a direction other than the qiblah, and it is not possible to turn him toward the qiblah because he has devices on his chest and heart and is unable to stand, does he pray in a direction other than the qiblah even though he is able to?
A448: He prays in a direction other than the qiblah if he is unable to face it, and this is excused for him, based on the saying of Allah the Exalted:
So fear Allah as much as you are able and listen and obey and spend [in the way of Allah]; it is better for your selves. And whoever is protected from the stinginess of his soul - it is those who will be the successful.
[At-Taghabun 64:16]
, and His saying:
And to Allah belongs the east and the west. So wherever you [might] turn, there is the Face of Allah. Indeed, Allah is all-Encompassing and Knowing.
[Al-Baqarah 2:115]
,
This applies to the one who is unable to face the qiblah, or who makes a mistake in facing it, except through ijtihad.
