Singling out Saturday and Friday for fasting
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question of Fatwa number ( 17600 )
Q1: I am a young man who was diligent in observing the fast of Dawud (peace be upon him), but I found people telling me: if your fast falls on Saturday or Friday, do not single them out for fasting. This is the statement of Shaykh Al-Albani (may Allah preserve him), as they said. I continued fasting while in a state of distress, so I hope you will inform me of the ruling on singling out Saturday and Friday for fasting if it is part of the fast of Dawud, or if it coincides with the Day of 'Arafah or Ashura?
A1: One who fasts the fast of Dawud (peace be upon him) has no blame on him for fasting on Friday or Saturday if that coincides with the fast he observes. Likewise, there is no objection to fasting on them if that coincides with the Day of 'Arafah or the Day of Ashura. It should be known that the specific hadith prohibiting fasting on Saturday except in what is obligatory upon us is not authentic.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
