Ruling on the effect of a hunting dog's bite on the game
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q8: The questioner asks: What is the ruling regarding the place where a hunting dog holds the game in its mouth? Do we wash it seven times, one of which with earth, or does this ruling not apply to it, as it applies to vessels from which dogs eat?
A8: Washing seven times applies to the dog if it eats from a vessel or drinks from it. As for the hunting dog, the effect of its bite on the game is excused; that is excused. This is because Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, said:[Al-Ma'idah 5:4], and washing was not mentioned. Likewise, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Sahih Muslim 1929a, and he did not order washing. Rather, washing seven times, one of which with earth, is specific to a vessel if a dog licks in it or eats in it, whether it is a hunting dog or not.
A8: Washing seven times applies to the dog if it eats from a vessel or drinks from it. As for the hunting dog, the effect of its bite on the game is excused; that is excused. This is because Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, said:
They ask you, [O Muhammad], what has been made lawful for them. Say, "Lawful for you are [all] good foods and [game caught by] what you have trained of hunting animals which you train as Allah has taught you. So eat of what they catch for you, and mention the name of Allah upon it, and fear Allah." Indeed, Allah is swift in account.
When you set off your trained dogs, if you recited the name of Allah (while setting them off), then eat (the game).
