Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and all his Companions.
He (may Allah have mercy on him) said: "Chapter on the prohibition of keeping a dog except for hunting, livestock, or crops. It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say:
He who keeps a dog other than one for guarding the fields or herds or hunting, will lose two Qirat every day out of his rewards.
Riyad as-Salihin 1688
It is agreed upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim. In another narration, it is a qirāṭ.
And it was narrated from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
He who kept a dog would lose out of his deeds equal to one qirat every day. except (one kept) for watching the field or herd.
Sahih Muslim 1575c
It is agreed upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim.
And in a narration specific to Muslim:
He who kept a dog which is neither meant for hunting nor for watching the anitmals nor for watching the fields would lose two qirat every day out of his reward

The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
The author (may Allah have mercy on him) said in his book *Riyad al-Saliheen*: "Chapter on the prohibition of keeping a dog except for farming, livestock, or hunting"
The dog is well known, and it comes in many colors, but the black one is specifically a devil, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said when
He was asked: What is the matter with the red dog, the white one, and the black one? He said: The black dog is a devil.

And if a black dog passes in front of the one praying, it breaks his prayer, and he must restart it from the beginning. Likewise, if it passes between the one praying and his sutrah, it breaks the prayer, and he must restart it from the beginning.
And the black dog’s game is not permissible according to the majority of scholars, even if it is trained and its owner sends it out and mentions the name of Allah over it, its game is not permissible because it is a devil. And if the disbelievers from among the children of Adam are not permissible to eat their game, except for the Jews and the Christians, then this devil, the dog, is not fit for its game to be permissible. As for the other dogs of various colors, they do not invalidate the prayer, and their game is permissible with the conditions known among the scholars.
As for keeping a dog and a person possessing it, this is forbidden, and indeed it is one of the major sins, and I seek refuge in Allah, because the one who keeps a dog, except for what is excluded, has his reward reduced by two qirāṭs every day. And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
and he who attends (and stays) till he is buried, for him is the reward of two qirats. It was said: What are the qirats? He said: They are equivalent to two huge mountains
Sahih Muslim 945a
So the one who keeps a dog without it being one of the exceptions has his reward reduced every day by the amount of Mount Uhud, a qirāṭ, or rather two qirāṭs. So
And this indicates that keeping dogs is one of the major sins, except for what is excluded: hunting, farming, and livestock. Hunting is the trained dog with which a person hunts, so its game is permissible if it is trained such that it runs when sent, stops when called back, and does not eat when it catches the prey, and that he mentions the name of Allah when sending it out. So its game is lawful, and the person keeps it for a need and benefit, and benefit.
Likewise, for farming, a person keeps a dog to protect his crops so that livestock do not enter and spoil them. The third is livestock; a person keeps a dog for his livestock, whether they are camels, cows, or sheep, because it protects them from wolves and protects them from thieves, for if it sees someone it dislikes, it barks, and its owner becomes alert. And if, for example, a person needs to guard his wealth, like a person in a remote place with no security guards around him, he keeps a dog, and there is no harm in that, because this is protection of wealth, like farming. And anything other than that is forbidden.
And among the wisdom of Allah, Mighty and Majestic, is that the evil ones are for the evil, and the evil are for the evil ones. It is said that the disbelievers from the Jews, Christians, communists, and others in the East and the West, each one has a dog, and I seek refuge in Allah, and he carries it with him. And when he buys meat, he gives the good meat to the dog and eats the bad meat himself. And every day he cleans it with soap and other cleansers, even though if he cleaned it with all the waters of the seas and the soap of the whole world, it would not become pure, because its impurity is intrinsic, and intrinsic impurity is not purified except by destroying it and removing it completely. But this is from the wisdom of Allah, and through this, the wisdom of Allah, Mighty and Majestic, is known, that He makes these wicked ones accustomed to what is evil, just as they are also accustomed to the inspiration of Satan, for their disbelief is from the inspiration of Satan, without doubt, and from the command of Satan. For Satan commands obscenity and what is wrong, and commands disbelief and misguidance. So they are slaves to Satan and slaves to their desires, and they are also wicked ones who are accustomed to evil things. We ask Allah for guidance for us and for them.
The important point is that keeping a dog without a legitimate religious reason is a major sin among the major sins. Then, the impurity of this dog is the most impure of impurities, the most impure impurity in animals, the impurity of the dog, because if it licks a vessel, the vessel is not purified except by washing it seven times, one of which is with soil. Other impurities, if the substance of the impurity is removed, the place becomes pure. But this one, no, it must be washed seven times, one of which is with soil. And success is from Allah.
