Explanation of the causes that nullify deeds
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q82: The questioner asks: What are the causes that nullify deeds?
Vol. 82: The greatest cause that nullifies deeds is shirk (associating partners with Allah) with Allah (Mighty and Majestic). Allah the Exalted said:[Az-Zumar 39:65]. And among the things that nullify deeds is boasting about them, where a person considers his deeds great and boasts about them to Allah. He (Exalted and Majestic is He) said: [Al-Muddaththir 74:6]. And He (Glorified and Exalted is He) said: [An-Najm 53:32]. Also, when a person performs
a deed, he does not know whether it was accepted from him or not. Allah (Exalted and Majestic is He) said:[Al-Ma'idah 5:27]. And it may be that his deed is valid and good, but he wrongs people in their honor, their wealth, and their blood. On the Day of Resurrection, there will be no dirhams, dinars, or money in it to pay off the injustices; there will be nothing in it but good deeds. So the good deeds of the wrongdoer will be taken and given to the wronged person. If his good deeds are exhausted before what is due to him is paid, then the evil deeds of the wronged people will be taken and placed upon him, and he will be thrown into the Fire.
Vol. 82: The greatest cause that nullifies deeds is shirk (associating partners with Allah) with Allah (Mighty and Majestic). Allah the Exalted said:
And it was already revealed to you and to those before you that if you should associate [anything] with Allah, your work would surely become worthless, and you would surely be among the losers."
And do not confer favor to acquire more
وَلاَ تَمْنُنْ تَسْتَكْثِرُSo do not claim yourselves to be pure; He is most knowing of who fears Him.
فَلاَ تُزَكُّوا أَنْفُسَكُمْ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَنِ اتَّقَىa deed, he does not know whether it was accepted from him or not. Allah (Exalted and Majestic is He) said:
Indeed, Allah only accepts from the righteous [who fear Him].
إِنَّمَا يَتَقَبَّلُ اللَّهُ مِنَ الْمُتَّقِينَ
