Dividing the causes that Allah has legislated into material causes and legal causes.

The Shaykh : Here is a very important observation that few people pay attention to, which is that the causes that Allah the Mighty and Majestic has legislated for their effects are divided into two categories: material causes, in the knowledge of which the righteous and the wicked Muslim share, and indeed the believer and the disbeliever both share...
I am speaking to the brothers here about the issue of causes. I mention here that many people do not pay attention to this division, which we have derived from the authentic Sunnah, namely that the causes, as is generally known, are divided into two categories: material causes, in the knowledge of which the righteous and the wicked Muslim share, and indeed the believer and the disbeliever share in their knowledge. In fact, the disbeliever today is perhaps more knowledgeable about material causes than the believers. As for the second category of causes: these are those in the knowledge of which only a very few believers are distinguished, and such causes are the farthest from the disbelievers. These are the legal, spiritual causes. We were in the midst of discussing forbidden earnings, and that they are among the causes that affect a person's life in a spiritual way that many Muslims do not feel. Among this is his saying (peace and blessings be upon him)Al-Mustadrak lil-Hakim 31:95 and he earns forbidden wealth, and he does not realize that this forbidden wealth corrupts his morals and his upbringing of himself, and then of those he provides for, just as it corrupts his material life if he does not take hold of the causes. Both are the same. And resulting from this is a very serious matter to which the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) pointed in the hadith narrated in Sahih Muslim Indeed, Allah is Pure and does not accept except that which is pure. And indeed, Allah commanded the believers with what He commanded the messengers, saying: O messengers, eat from the good things and do good. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned the man who lengthens his journey, disheveled and dusty, stretching his hands to the sky: O my Lord! O my Lord! His food is forbidden, and his drink is forbidden, and his clothing is forbidden, and he is nourished with the forbidden, so how regarding the causes that prevent his food, drink, clothing, and everything around him from being forbidden. Therefore, every Muslim should be very far from the legal causes that make the Muslim sick in his behavior and his morals. And he should be more eager to hold fast to these causes than he is to hold fast to the causes by which he maintains his physical health, because the physical aspects are, of course, more important than the material aspects. And this is a reminder that benefits the believers, if Allah wills.
