The questioner : Her mother says she has one son and four daughters. She gave birth to twin girls on one occasion and two other girls. She was angry about the number of daughters and did not give birth to a son, so she breastfed one and left the other for seven days without breastfeeding. She breastfed her once during these seven days, and that girl died. Is she considered the cause of that, and what must she do now?

The Shaykh : What she did is considered a sin upon her and dissatisfaction with the divine decree and destiny of Allah. She is sinful for that. How does she know? Perhaps goodness lies in the daughters, perhaps dutifulness in life lies in the daughters, and perhaps the good and the reward lie in the daughters. Perhaps the only ones who will benefit the deceased after his death are his daughters. This is an error on her part and a sin. She is considered the one who killed her. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) informed us:
A woman entered the Fire because of a cat she had confined. She did not feed it, nor did she release it to eat from the creatures of the earth. أن امرأةً دخلت النار في هرةٍ حبستها لا هي أطعمتها ولا هي أرسلتها تأكل من خشَاش الأرض
So what about the one who withheld this child, may Allah protect us? She did not breastfeed her, nor did she send her to someone to breastfeed her. She is therefore sinful with a great sin. We ask Allah for safety. She must repent to Allah and regret this forbidden act that occurred from her, which is an encroachment upon the sanctity of a human being. And Allah is the One to be asked for help.

The questioner : Is an expiation not required of her for this?

The Shaykh : This is a point where I pause in my judgment in my opinion.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : Perhaps we will review it, if Allah wills, and see what the ruling is in it.

The questioner : If Allah wills, these are two questions from the listener Abdul Aziz Yusuf al-Shahat, an Egyptian resident in al-Qassim.
