Making an Excuse with Divine Decree for Committing Sins

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q263: The questioner asks: What is the ruling on one who makes an excuse with divine decree for committing sins, and says: “I am written as wretched, or happy?”
A263: We seek refuge in Allah from this statement. Allah, Mighty and Majestic, commanded us to repent and seek forgiveness, even though He decrees all things. And despite this, He commanded us to repent and seek forgiveness; because sins and disobedience are from our doing, our earning, our choice, and our will. So we must repent to Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He, and seek His forgiveness for them. Divine decree and destiny is not an excuse for committing sins; rather, it is an excuse in the case of calamities. So if something befalls you, say: “It is the decree of Allah and His destiny,” and be patient. As for sins, they are from your doing and your earning. So you must repent to Allah, seek His forgiveness, and leave off sins.
