Fatwa number ( 21402 )
Q: The charitable warehouse, which is affiliated with the charitable project to assist young people in getting married in Jeddah , receives in-kind donations of new furniture from one of the commercial institutions, from their zakah fund, every year. Official letters and receipts are issued for the receipt of the furniture at their selling price, knowing that the original value of this furniture is much less than the selling price. We hope that you, may Allah protect you and bless you, will inform us about the permissibility of this practice and guide us to what is required in this regard. May Allah preserve you and protect you, and may He guide your steps along the paths of good.
A: It is permissible to give goods in lieu of the zakah on money if that is more beneficial to the poor, provided that those goods are at their market price on the day the zakah becomes obligatory. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
